Antique 1898 Vesta case set in sterling silver, featuring a beautiful ivy leaf pattern on the front and back. In the Victorian era the Ivy leaf symbolised love, affection, fidelity, friendship and affection. The Vesta case would be the perfect place to store a keepsake or memento as if it were a locket.
Vesta cases were used to store matches, on the bottom of the box is a ridged area used to strike the match. In the 1830s friction matches came into use although they were hazardous and could light without warning, the vesta case kept the matches dry and safe.
