Antique Victorian silver sovereign case from 1898-1899 in England.The case has a button at the top of the pendant which when pressed released the front of the piece, inside the case a single sovereign can be secured. In the Victorian era the Ivy leaf symbolised love, affection, fidelity, friendship and affection
Unfortunately we do not use sovereigns today and the original purpose of the piece cannot be performed with modern day money, however, the case could be used as a locket for a picture or memento secured in the spring compartment.
The piece has two hallmarks the case dates back to 1898-1899 and the ring on the top is hallmarked 1972-1973 most likely the piece was fixed.
