An exquisite antique Georgian fob from the early 19th century depicting a proud gold lion stood atop a rectangular platform that holds an intaglio panel underneath.
In the 18th and 19th century fobs were typically worn as a decorative accessory to go along with a pocket watch. The intaglio was then used to stamp a person's signature or perhaps a sentimental message or image in sealing wax on important documents.
The fob is intricately detailed with lifelike fur across the lion’s mane and elaborate floral engraving around the outer frame. The intaglio is carved with a crest in the centre and decorated with star and Fleur de Lis motifs with a knight’s helm on top.
It’s remained in pristine condition and is accompanied by a long cable chain to display it on. Both are crafted in pinchbeck and have been given an 18ct gold finish.
We recommend you insure for £1,600. We can provide a written Valuation on completion of the sale.
