Product Details

A grand antique Edwardian Albert chain from the early 20th Century made up of chunky silver curb links gilded in a bright 18ct gold to give it a desirable yellow bloom.

Albert chains were popularised and named after Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s consort in the 19th Century and were traditionally worn by gentlemen to secure a pocket watch to the buttonhole of a waistcoat. Today, they are also worn as stylish necklaces; a custom that was started by the wives of soldiers during the first world war who wore the chains as a keepsake in the hope they’d return home safely.

It’s a solid, substantial chain and is complete with its original clasps, T-bar and an extension of chain at the bottom fitted with a new 9ct gold ring clasp, typically used to hold a medallion, locket or another keepsake.
